SCUNTHORPE are out of the Knockout Cup following a defeat to Leicester on Saturday night.
With a 14-point deficit going into the clash at Beaumont Park the visitors were very much up against it from the off.
However, the meeting was marred by a horrific crash involving Scorpions’ No.1 Josh Auty who suffered concussion.
And despite going 30-18 down after eight races the Scorpions showed plenty of spirit with four race wins in the last five heats.
Simon Lambert beat the Lions’ in-form man Ryan Douglas in the re-run of Heat 11 before reserve Josh MacDonald boosted his confidence with victory in the next race.
Thomas Jorgensen got the better of Douglas and Nick Morris in Heat 13 and then Tero Aarnio teamed up with Rising Star Jordan Palin for a well-deserved heat advantage with one race remaining.
Lambert said: “It was a solid team performance despite Theo Pijper having a bad night and Josh Auty withdrawing after two rides through injury. Fair play to the boys, though, they gave their all and it was a respectable loss as such.
“Looking at my own performance I started off slowly and then I finished off by getting another scalp with a win over Ryan Douglas who has been flying so far this season.”
LEICESTER 50: Ryan Douglas 13, Kyle Howarth 10+1, Nick Morris 9+2, Joe Thompson 8, Ty Proctor 7, Dan Thompson 3+2, Josh Bates 0.
SCUNTHORPE 40: Tero Aarnio 11, Thomas Jorgensen 9+1, Simon Lambert 6+1, Josh MacDonald 4+1, Josh Auty 4, Jordan Palin 4, Theo Pijper 2+2.
Leicester win 102-78 on aggregate.
