Preview: Berwick v Scunthorpe

SCUNTHORPE head to Berwick tonight (Saturday 7pm) after they endured a tough night against Leicester at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday losing 52-38.

Nothing went right for Scorpions from the moment that Josh Auty suffered a frightening-looking crash with Leicester’s Nick Morris in Heat 1.

Each of the home riders battled in the wet conditions but the visiting Lions were just too strong and will take a 14-point lead into the second leg.

However, the Scorpions swiftly turn their attention back to the league campaign as they take on a Bandits side who will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Birmingham last time out.

Scunthorpe skipper Simon Lambert said: “We got beat by the better team and we always knew Leicester would be strong so there’s no excludes there. We probably won’t win the cup but we really want the league title instead.

“We are going to go there and attack Berwick hard from Heat 1. I like Berwick because it’s a big fast track. Everybody is beatable simple as that. Everyone has written us off already so if we go there and get a result we’ll make some heads turn.”
